Although I am jetlagged and in need of a shower, I have finally arrived in Milan after months of anticipation! I could not be more excited to explore this beautiful city and immerse myself in the fashion capital of the world.
To start off our trip, we ate lunch at Bar Magenta, a quaint bar down the street from our hotel. It was wonderful and gave us a perfect first taste of Italian cuisine.
Then we made our way to the Duomo, where we took tourist-y pictures and explored la Rinascente, a 150-year-old mall in Milan. Inside, the elegance found in the luxury stores was astounding. It was easy to appreciate why Milan is such an iconic city in the fashion industry. Prada, Gucci, Armani, and Dolce & Gabbana to name a few. While also inside we got to "spin on the bull's balls" which (I know it sounds strange) is a right of passage when arriving in Milan. You place your foot on the mosiac on the bulls.. uhh.. male parts, and spin around three times. This tradition supposedly brings you good luck for the time that you spend here. Although I'm not sure of the accuracy of the tale, it was fun and I obviously had to participate and hopefully catch some extra luck along the way.
In the evening, we made our way to the center of Milan to visit a typical pizza restaurant, Pizzeria Naturale. I am proud to say I ate the entire thing and cried a few tears of joy in between each slice.
Finally, to end the night we made our way back to Bar Magenta to grab a drink (which I spilled on my professor's lap) and celebrate our arrival.
I can't wait to see what else is in store!
