2017 was a crazy year, I came back from abroad and had my favorite semester at Bentley, I had an awesome time at my company again this summer and was offered a full time position, and I had a blast in my director position in my office at school. 2018 has a lot to live up to, but I decided to share 18 things I'm excited for/goals that I have for this year. It's a hefty list, but I thought long and hard about what I wanted to accomplish! Enjoy!
1. Graduate from Bentley
I can’t exactly say I’m “excited” for this, (ugh adulthood!!) but I know there are some exciting things to look forward to following graduation. My roommate Lauren has actually banned the “G-word” from being spoken about, so I’m sorry La if you’re reading this! My school has truly become my second home and family, and it will be really hard to say goodbye to my favorite place. I’m also a super nerd, and love taking classes. It will be weird not taking them for the first time in my life. I’m happy that many of my friends will luckily still be living in the Boston area along with myself after school ends. It will be a big change for sure!
2. Start my Career in Merchandising
I have interned for a large retailer for the past two years and loved every second of it, so I am so soooo excited to finally start my career with them! If you were to tell me I would be merging my two passions, fashion and business, in my career path just a few years ago, I’m not sure I would have believed you! There will be so many opportunities to learn and grow in this position and I am looking forward to starting so much!
3. Spend the Summer with my Family in Florida
Hello Florida sunshine!! I don’t start work until the end of the summer, so I’m taking advantage of the time off by spending some quality time with my parents and brother. It will probably be my last long-term break that I have for a while, so it’ll be nice to enjoy it on the beach. I also want to get a little part time waitressing job to be able to make some extra cash for those impending student loans lol.
4. Get my First Apartment
Well kinda. This will be my first time apartment hunting and actually signing a lease, since all of the apartments I’ve lived in have been on campus or were through work. I literally have no idea where to start and neither does my roommate, so it’ll be an interesting learning curve for sure. Hopefully we find something good, I can’t wait to decorate!!
5. Grow to 5k on C’est La Vie
I am now on my second year of C’est La Vie (I know I can’t believe it) and I’ve grown slowly, but I’m proud of how far it’s come and how much I’ve learned along the way. One of my goals is to be more consistent in posting, which is difficult to do with school but I really want to bring it farther this year. I'm hoping to be able to work with some cool new brands, which will definitely help with growth!
6. Go to Nashville
My brother fell in love with Nashville last year and won't stop raving about it. Ever since he went I have been dying to go! The food, music, bars, and people make it sound incredible! I'm DEFINITELY going to go this year, and you best believe there will be a looooong blog post about it.
7. Run a Half-Marathon
I eventually want to run a marathon, but I figured a good step before doing that would be to run a half-marathon. Especially considering I die after running two miles lol. I'm hoping to train towards the end of this upcoming semester and run the half this summer down in Florida.
8. Develop a Consistent Content Calendar
Let me tell you, this one is a STRUGGLEEE. It can be difficult for me to come up with content that I am genuinely excited about, especially when I'm at school. That's why this year over break I am developing posts and content ideas with a calendar that I am going to do my best to stick to. Wish me luck!
9. Develop a Budget (AND STICK TO IT)
This is another one that will be tough because I'm really not the best with my money, but I'll give it a shot!
10. Take a Bartending Class
I want to eventually bartend on the side, so I want to take a class and get certified. Plus I'll be able to throw the best shin-digs! Cosmos anyone?
11. Be a Better Friend
This is something I put on my list every year. There is always room for improvement, and I know there are a few things I want to work on this year regarding this. I have the best friends, who are truly a family to me so I want to make sure I'm as good to them as they are to me!
12. Purge my Bedroom
Since I'm moving, I have sooooo much stuff to get rid of before I head up to Boston! I hate clutter, so I want to make sure I head into my new place with as little "stuff" as possible. Hopefully before I head down to Florida I will have much of it packed away and ready to go. If you haven't already, definitely check out my Poshmark for some of the clothes I'm trying to get out of my closet!
13. Re-read the Harry Potter Series
Ready to apparate back to Hogwarts and get my wizard on! (yes, once again, I'm a nerd) I haven't read the books since I was in middle school, and have been on an insane Harry Potter kick lately so I naturally need to re-read the series. I can't wait to start from the beginning again!! Plus this is a great way for me to get back to reading for leisure, as I have a hard time finding the motivation during school. This will be a nice excuse!
14. Go to Canada to Visit Abroad Friends!
CANADA 2018! We have been talking about this trip before we left Spain, so I can't wait to head up to the great white north!
15. Go to at Least Two New States
I figured since Tennessee will be one new state for me, I have to add another one in there ;)
16. Take a Cooking Class
Pasta, Pasta, and more pasta. Seriously that's what I "cook" a majority of the time. I feel like it's time for me to venture out and finally learn how to make more creative meals, so I eat something other than endless carbs. My family has also been giving me recipes so I'm looking forward to learning those too.
17. Fitness Journey
I be up in the gym just workin' on my fitness he's my witnessssssssssss. It's cliche but to be fair I started last month, BEFORE the new year. I'm trying to get in the best shape for my Bahamas trip in May! I'm obsessed with the fitness guru Whitney Simmons' workouts; she is so funny and has a killer bod. I picked a bunch of her workouts and alternate between them every few days. I've also been trying to eat healthier, and have been trying intermittent fasting. Maybe I'll write a post about it soon! Leave a comment below if this is something you would like to see! Bikini season here I come.
18. Join a Non-Profit Board
My last goal is something I have been thinking about for a while. My civic engagement and service work at school is something I am extremely passionate about, and want to make sure I have opportunities for continuing this type of work after graduation. I consult with a few boards right now, so I'm hoping to get on one of them after graduation.
Whew, there's a lot on here to accomplish over the course of the year, I better get started now! What are your New Years Goals? I'm looking forward to 2018, I can already tell it's going to be a good one.
